Sothebys ‘Arts of the Islamic World & India’ 30 April 2025. Lot 641. A Kermina suzani, Central Asia, Uzbekistan, mid-19th century. 60 by 188cm. approx. Provenance Ex-collection Ignazio Vok (1938-2019), Italy. The embroidery is very fine and of very good quality, with crisp drawing and overall in exceptionally good condition There are some minute losses to the central flower head, but it is otherwise complete. There are also a couple of places along the centre left seam where the original drawing can be seen but which were apparently never embroidered (see photo). The top central flower head in the online photo has a number of small dark splatter spots (ink?). These look as if cleaning has been tried so are probably permanent., but because of the shimmer of the silk are barely noticeable. There is a gorgeous range of colours and variety of infill motifs in the flowers. The ground is an unbleached natural colour in very good condition. The suzani has a later lining and a strip of velcro stitches to one long edge in the reverse. Estimate 18,000 – 25,000 GBP. Sold 38,100 GBP
