Woven Gardens, the Jim Dixon Collection for sale at Skinner

Skinners next carpet specialist live auction “Woven Gardens Jim Dixon Collection” will take place 4 May 2022 at 12 pm. in Boston. Previews by appointment from 29 April to 3 May.

Many of Dixon’s pieces are at least two hundred years old, and some are much older. Collectors of Kurdish, Anatolian, Turkmen, Caucasian, Chinese, Tibetan, and East Turkestan rugs will find offerings from the Jim Dixon collection. Some of the pieces are in excellent condition, and some are well-worn fragments. The highlight of this auction is lot 50, a ca. 1600 Ming Imperial Dragon Carpet with an estimate of $200,000 – $300,000.

Khotan
Lot 101. Khotan Rug, East Turkestan, first half of 19th century, pomegranates in a vase on a deep blue field with subtle abrash, borders of coral-red and light blue, 4 ft. 2 in. x 8 ft. The Jim Dixon Collection, to benefit the Krishnamurti Foundation of America. Estimate $2,000-3,000

Shirvan Prayer Rug, Caucasus, c. 1820 or earlier, large-scale alternate facing botehs and a curved mihrab, five animals residing at the bottom of the dark indigo field, 3 ft. 6 in. x 4 ft. 7 in. Ming
