Dorotheum will hold an auction 9 April 2019 with nearly 140 Turkmen carpets, bag faces and tent bands from a private carpet collection in Schleswig-Holstein. The collection is build over several decades and includes rare and high-quality pieces from various tribes such as the Yomud, Tekke, Saryk, Salor and Ersari.
According to Dorotheum the auction highlight is a 17th century Tekke Khaly carpet which measures 226 x 200 cm. ‘In terms of design and colour, I consider this to be one of the best surviving examples of this type of carpet’ says Dototheums carpet specialist Wolfgang Matschek to Jozan Magazine.
