The Near Eastern Art Research Center was formed in 1962 by the late Joseph V. McMullan (1896- 1973), one of the 20th century’s foremost scholars and collectors of Islamic carpets.

The 40th annual Textile Museum Fall Symposium will take place 12-14 October 2012 in Washington DC. This years symposium is entitled “Ottoman By Design: Branding An Empire” and will explore the museums fall exhibition “The Sultan’s Garden: The Blossoming of Ottoman Art”.
