The Textile Society of America has announced the winner of the 2011 R. L. Shep Ethnic Textiles Book Award to “Splendor and Pageantry: Textile Treasures from the Armenian Orthodox Churches of Istanbul” by Ronald Marchese, Marlene Breu and the Armenian Patriarchate of Istanbul.
Organized by Chris Martens, the panel Central Asian Textiles: Politics and Process was particularly stimulating with papers by Elmira Gyul, Irina Bogoslovskaya, Stephanie Bunn, and David and Sue Richardson. The panel was well conceived and resulted in a standing-room-only crowd!
The Textile Society of America’s Biennial Symposium, Textiles and Politics, was held in Washington DC 19-23 September 2012. The symposium included 150 presentations spread over three days.
