The Joseph V. McMullan Award for Scholarship and Stewardship in Islamic Rugs & Textiles is a esteemed recognition in the field of Islamic art and culture. This award is named after Joseph V. McMullan, a scholar and collector of Islamic rugs and textiles.

The Textile Museum Associates of Southern California (TMA/SC) is a frequent organizer of interesting rug and textile lectures held by reputable scholars. Recently, on 3rd March 2012 James D. Burns held an lecture “Antique Rugs of Kurdistan” for the group in Los Angeles.
