Special exhibition of Moroccan rag rugs at SF Tribal

Category: Exhibitions

The ongoing Tribal & Textile Arts Show 10-12 February 2012  includes a special exhibition of Moroccan rag rugs. This exhibition is entitled “Post Punk Pink” and is curated by Gebhart Blazek.

These Moroccan rag rugs are called Boucherouite. The materials used to make them include recycled rag strips, yarns from textile remnants like wool, cotton, synthetic fibres and plastic. The production started in the 1960s and 1970s around the towns of Beni Mellal and Boujad and today they are made all over Morocco.
