Sothebys will hold a special sale “Rugs and Carpets” 7 November 2017 at 2.30pm in London. The preview is open for the public Friday 3 November from 9am-4.30pm, Saturday 4 November and Sunday 5 November from 12noon-5pm, Monday 6 November from 9am-4.30pm and on the day of the auction 7 November 9am-12noon.

Twenty early rugs from the collection of Christopher Alexander

The auction includes 157 lots and among them twenty early rugs from the collection of the architect and author Christopher Alexander. Both collector and decorator pieces are offered in the sale, representing Persia, India, Central Asia, Anatolia, Turkey and Europe and including carpets, rugs and runners, signed and dated pieces and fragments.

Lot 52. An 16th century Oushak small medallion rug. Approximately 146 by 111cm; 4ft. 0in., 3ft. 8in. Property from the Alexander Collection. Estimate 20.000-30.000 GBP
