Rug and textile study tour to Uzbekistan

Image1Stefano Ionescu, who received the McMullan award in 2011, has been organizer of culture and rug study tours for many years. The destinations have been Transylvania, Syria, Uzbekistan, and others.

Next spring, Stefano has arranged a tour “Discover Uzbekistan: Along the Silk Road”, from 19-26 April 2012.

During this tour the attendees will visit Tashkent, Samarkand and Bokhara just to mention some of the interesting places. According to Stefano Ionescu meetings with local people, visits to the bazaars and sampling local quality food also plays an important role on this tour.

Other highlights of this tour includes curatorial-led visits to The State Museum, the Museum of Applied Art and the Khazrati Imam Complex  in Tashkent.

In Samarkand the attendees will visit the three Madrassahs Ulugbek, Sher-Dor and Tilla-Kari, the Bibi Khanum Mosque and the Gur Emir Mausoleum.

In Bokhara the tour includes visits to the Ark Fortress, the  Bolohauz mosque, Madrassah Nadirkhon Devanbegi, Khanaga, the Mogaki Attari mosque and the Kalon minaret and mosque.

“Optional days in Tashkent or extension to Khiva or Nukus may be arranged individually” says Stefano Ionescu to Jozan Magazine.
