LOT: 46
RUG NAME: Sevan Kazak
AGE: ca. 1900
ESTIMATE: 11.500 EUR
SOLD: 11.000 EUR
DESCRIPTION: SEVAN KAZAK
Origin: Southwest Caucasus, ca. 1900 Size: ca. 235 x 170 cm Estimate EUR: € 11,500
The presence of two chemical red dyes in some of the design details obliges us to date this Sevan Kazak to the period around 1900; otherwise we would be inclined to consider this carpet, with its powerful shield motif and richly detailed, well-proportioned design, an older piece. – Excellent condition, full pile, several insignificant repiled areas in the centre of the field; original finishes all around.

LOT: 48
RUG NAME: Sarouk
AGE: Late 19th century
ESTIMATE: 13.500 EUR
SOLD: 9.500 EUR
DESCRIPTION: Lot Nr.: 48
Description: SAROUGH
Origin: West Persia, Arak region, late 19th century Size: ca. 208 x 141 cm Estimate EUR: € 13,500
The garden theme runs through the art of Persian weaving like a thread. In this elegant Sarough rug, a large tree flanked by two shrubs dominates the midnight blue field, and a wide gable rises above it in a sweeping arch. Luxuriantly flowering branches cover the entire surface. Aesthetically perfect pieces made of premium materials such as this one were almost always produced on commission. Very fine weave; the velvety pile has been cut short. – Good condition, sides in need of some restoration, slightly reduced at the top.

LOT: 50
RUG NAME: Peking
AGE: ca. 1900
ESTIMATE: 22.000 EUR
SOLD: 10.000 EUR
DESCRIPTION: Lot Nr.: 50
Description: PEKING
Origin: Northeast China, ca. 1900 Size: ca. 362 x 278 cm Estimate EUR: € 22,000
This masterpiece from the Peking workshops was published as early as the 1973 catalogue. Harmoniously proportioned, perfectly drawn with classical motifs seemingly suspended on a blue ground, this carpet is an example of the best export quality of the turn of the century. – Very good condition.

LOT: 59
RUG NAME: QASHQA’I Kashkuli
AGE: Late 19th century
ESTIMATE: 11.000 EUR
SOLD: 5.000 EUR
DESCRIPTION: Lot Nr.: 59
Description: QASHQA’I KASHKULI
Origin: Southwest Persia, Fars region, late 19th century Size: ca. 208 x 123 cm Estimate EUR: € 11,000
This Qashqa’i is a piece by the Kashkuli tribe who are famous all over Persia for their craftsmanship. Elegant botehs seem to float on the azure field, and the central axis is accentuated by three small diamond medallions. Very finely woven and with a violet silk weft shoot, the carpet is thin and has a cloth-like handle. Such precious prestige objects were never destined for constant use. – Slight signs of wear in the pile, repiled ends.

LOT: 65
RUG NAME: Kuba
AGE: 19th century
ESTIMATE: 6.000 EUR
SOLD: 12.000 EUR
DESCRIPTION: Lot Nr.: 65
Description: KUBA
Origin: East Caucasus, Kuba region, 19th century Size: ca. 116 x 81 cm Estimate EUR: € 6,000
Produced in the northern Kuba region (or in Daghestan?), this small carpet with a golden-yellow ground and a design that has obviously been influenced by Shahsavan sumakhs (S-shaped stylised dragons in the field, Syrga border) is possibly unique. In 1979 it was published by Herrmann and reappeared in Engelhardt’s book in 1990. – In good condition, considering its age, small amounts of repiling bottom right, slightly reduced ends, original red selvedges.

LOT: 69
RUG NAME: Heriz
AGE: mid 19th century
ESTIMATE: 25.000 EUR
SOLD: 20.000 EUR
DESCRIPTION: Lot Nr.: 69
Description: HERIZ
Origin: Northwest Persia, Azerbaijan, mid 19th century Size: ca. 348 x 197 cm Estimate EUR: € 25,000
As correctly noted in the 1980 Engelhardt catalogue, light blue is used very rarely as a ground colour in Heriz carpets. This very beautiful example, a firework of colour, also stands out for its kelleh-like format and Bakhshaish design, despite the unmistakable Heriz knotting structure. Replaced kilim finishes at the ends, sides overcast retrospectively, otherwise in very good condition.

LOT: 71
RUG NAME: BAKHSHAISH
AGE: mid 19th century
ESTIMATE: 11.000 EUR
SOLD: 7.200 EUR
DESCRIPTION: Lot Nr.: 71
Description: BAKHSHAISH
Origin: Northwest Persia, Azerbaijan, mid 19th century Size: ca. 203 x 147 cm Estimate EUR: € 11,000
Good condition apart from slight signs of wear, original selvedges, minimally reduced ends, several repaired moth holes in the field.
