In part I of the Oriental rugs and carpets auction on 15th May 2004 Rippon Boswell is selling the Lesley and Robert Pinner Collection of 110 antique Turkmen weavings. Lesley Pinner was a botanist of profession and an enthusiastic collector with a great knowledge of structure and weaving techniques. Most of the Pinner collection was bought during Leslie Pinner’s lifetime. She died in 1982. Now retired, Robert Pinner was a metallurgist. He was co-founder and co-owner of Hali Publications until 1985. He was editor of Hali from 1979-1984 and co-founder of the International Conference of Oriental Carpets.
The Pinner Collection includes 110 rugs and textiles with estimates from 400 EURO – for a Yomut mafrash – to 40.000 Euro for a rare Tekke asmalyk. So a low budget collector can also be owner of a “Pinner” rug and that increases the interest for this auction.
