Results from Austria Auction Company’s inaugural carpet auction 21 September

Udo Langauer’s first auction with his new company Austria Auction Company took place Saturday 21 September 2013 at the Novomatic Forum in Vienna. With a total sale of € 1.015.515 including buyers premium this inaugural sale was a success. The auction room was crowded and with a lot of phone bidders and internet bids too the atmosphere was intense.

The highlight of the auction lot 101, a rare 17th century Star Ushak, sold for € 183.000 including buyers premium. Other carpets achieved very high prices too, and among them a pre-1800, perhaps 17th century Saryk main carpet, lot 137, achieved € 73.200. A circa 1800 Karadashli main carpet, lot 80, sold for € 40.260. Among the Persian carpets a large Mohtashem Kashan, 4×3 meters, lot 112, sold for € 54.900, and lot 178, a Serapi, 5×4 meters, sold for € 36.600 including premium.
