‘Pull of the Thread: Textile Travels of a Generation’ by Sheila Fruman and published by Hali Publications tells the fascinating stories of nine textile fascinated travellers who from the 1970s in their youth combed cities, villages and bazars of Turkey, Balkan, Iran, Caucasus, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India to research, collect and sell antique woven textiles.
The travellers include Joss Graham, Pip Rau, Frank Ames, Susan Gomersall, John Gillow, Andy Hale, Kate Fitz Gibbon and Steven Cohen. This generation of researchers, collectors and dealers all made important contributions to their fields by publishing books and staging exhibitions.
The book includes 232 pages and more than 200 colour illustrations.
