The Textile Museum of Canada in Toronto is hosting an exhibition “Portable Mosques: The Sacred Space of the Prayer Rug” which will will run through 3 September 2012.

The ongoing exhibition presents examples of prayer rugs from major rug producing areas like Iran, Tyrkey, Afghanistan and Caucasus. The prayer rugs are selected from the TMC’s own collection of Oriental carpets and rugs and the exhibition features 30 prayer rugs created between the early 19th century and the early 20th century.

The exhibition is curated by Natalia Nekrassova and a “Curator’s Tour” will take place Wednesday 1 August 2012 at 6:30 pm.
