The ICOC Washington DC from 6-9 August 2015 includes a Carpet Fair with some 15 esteemed antique rug dealers. Many of these dealers will bring tribal rugs and Persian rugs and workshop carpets will also be a part of the fair exhibition. And Persian workshop carpets are indeed collectable according to one of the exhibiting dealers Douglas Stock, Quadrifoglio Gallery.
“It always seems curious to me that some dealers consider a mid level Belouchi bag worth $ 950 to be “collectable” but a Mohtashem Keshan worth $ 35,000 to be “decorative”. I do not see a similar theme with furniture collectors. In our field of rugs, fragments of mediocre bags are sold as collector items because they were not made for “commercial” purposes but great workshop rugs are considered by many to be not collectable because they were made for, and generally are displayed on, the floor. It always seems strange to me” said Douglas Stock to Jozan Magazine.
