The Textile Museum, Washington DC, will open their exhibition “The Sultan’s Garden: The Blossoming of Ottoman Art” 21 September 2012. This exhibition will run through 10 March 2013 and will present more than 50 textiles and other works of art showcasing the stylized floral designs that became synonymous with the wealth, glory, and influence of the Ottoman Empire.
The Ottoman Empire represented itself at home and abroad through a single, recognizable visual aesthetic through stylized tulips, roses, carnations, and other flowers.
A 192-page, full-color catalog by Walter Denny and Sumru Krody accompanies this exhibition.
