East Anatolian rugs, often crafted by Kurdish weavers, reflect the influence of the region’s rugged and mountainous terrain. The relative isolation of villages in this area allowed for the development of unique, localized designs and weaving techniques. These rugs are known for their bold motifs and rich, earthy colors.
The East Anatolian Rugs Photo Gallery includes significant pieces such as the carbon-dated “Faces” Rug (1042–1218), an 18th-century Kurdish rug from Sivas, and a late 17th- or early 18th-century rug from Kars.
