The Carpet and Textile Forum has announced the final program for the conference taken place 14-16 May 2024 at the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott in Santa Barbara County, California. Carpet and Textile Forum is established to promote the understanding of carpets and textiles, through a hands-on approach. The event was previously known as “Rug Collectors’ Weekend” but the name was changed in 2023.

Tuesday 14 May

  • 4:00pm: Wine Reception on patio
  • 5:00-9:00pm: Dealer’s Show. Sixteen dealers will offer a variety of carpets & textiles, with Wine Reception.

Wednesday 15 May

  • 9: 30-9:45am: Welcoming, News & Info
  • 9:45-10:00am: Bruce Baganz and other Board Members of the Near Eastern Research Center, present the 2024 Joseph V. McMullan Award for Scholarship and Stewardship in Islamic Rugs & Textiles; this award is recognized as the highest accolade in the international field of oriental carpets, issued by the Trustees of the Near Eastern Art Research Center.
  • 10:00-11:00am: Afshars rugs and bags: Jean Hoffman, Robert Bell, James Burns and Michael Rothberg.
  • 11:00-1200: Garments of the Ottoman Era Levant/Syrian Textiles: Paula Krugmeier, David Paley, and Roger Pratt
  • 12:00-2:00: Lunch break
  • 2:00-3:00pm: Caucasian Fragments: Michael Lubin
  • 3:00-4:00: Ottoman Influences on Islamic Batik from Indonesia, a Context of Understanding: Thomas Murray
  • 4:00-7:30pm: Dealer’s Show

Thursday 16 May

  • 10:00-11:00pm: Turkmen Main Carpets: George Hecksher and Alan Rothblatt
  • 11:00-12:00pm: Double-sided Ikats World Wide: David Paly
  • 12:00-2:00pm: Lunch break
  • 2:00-4:00pm: Show and Tell
  • 4:00-6:30pm: Dealer’s Show
  • 6:30pm: Genuine Santa Maria Style BBQ Dinner!
