The next International Conference on Oriental Carpets, ICOC, will take place 6-9 June 2024 in Istanbul. Several tour organisers have arranged pre- and post conference tours in Turkey.

ICOC’s pre-conference tour ‘ICOC Central Anatolia Tour’ will take place 1 June – 6 June and will explore Central Anatolia, starting from Ankara to Konya and finishing with the magical landscapes of Cappadocia. The participants will also stop at the Sultanhani Caravanserai, built during the Seljuk period, the biggest of the 13th Century. The mayor of Sultanhani will arrange an exhibition of rugs from the region especially for the ICOC group.

ICOC’s post-conference tours 9-12 June 2024 include two alternatives. A trip to Western Anatolia, an area rich with weaving workshops and villages. Departure from Istanbul by plane to Izmir. After visiting the Arkas Museum to see amazing classical Ottoman rugs from the Arkas Collection, the tour will continue to Bergama, known as the Pergamon. Center of Greek and Roman cultures. The other tour will go to Southeast of Turkey. Departure from Istanbul by plane to Gaziantep to explore the latest excavations of Southeast Anatolia. Visit the Zeugma Mosaic Museum, Sanliurfa, city of Abraham with its bazaar, and the earliest settlement in history.

The Black Tent Project and HALI – pre conference tour

‘The Greater Anatolia Rug and Textile Study Tour’, offered by The Black Tent Project and HALI, will take place from 24 May–5 June 2024. The visitors will participate in a journey through weaving regions in Turkey and see an array of rugs and textiles in Istanbul, Bursa, Bergama, İzmir, Tire-Birgi, Ankara, Cappadocia, Sultanhanı and Konya. The 13-day tour offers visitors access to woven treasures, a series of workshops and lectures, just ahead of the ICOC Conference in Istanbul.

Stefano Ionescu has organised a tour 5-20 June 2024 with additional events and hotel accommodation during the ICOC Conference 6-9 June and a trip after the conference which combines carpets with some of the main attractions in Turkey.
