
The Oriental Rug Society of New South Wales and the Powerhouse Museum present “ICOC Down Under” as a regional conference in Sydney, Australia, September 16-19, 2004.
The conference will focus on the rugs, textiles and trappings of Central and Western Asia. Among speakers are both Australian and international experts.
The sesions will include: Early Turkmen rugs, Northeast Anatolian rugs, Indigo & natural dyes, Polonaise rugs, Archaeology & rug designs, Suzani embroidery, Aboriginal Art, Maori weaving, Cambodian ship cloths and more.
There will be two important exhibitions connected to the conference. One will feature fine oriental rugs and trappings from Australian collections and the other is a major exhibition of embroidered textiles, costume and jewellery, ceramics from state museum collections in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.
An international dealer fair will be held in the Powerhouse Museum.
There will be a post-conference tour to Canberra, on Monday 20 – Tuesday 21 September.
