Grogan "Fine Oriental Rugs and Carpets" 20 January 2013

Grogan & Company has announced they will be conducting an auction of Fine Oriental Rugs and Carpets at their Dedham Gallery on Sunday, 20 January at 12 noon. In anticipation of the January sale, Grogan has assembled a selection of more than 250 carpets from prominent collections around the globe.

“I have been pleased with the global response to the sale announcement this fall,” commented Michael Grogan, “rugs have been coming in not only from US collections, but also from collector’s in the United Kingdom, Europe and Canada.”

One of the highlights of the January 20th auction is a mid 19th century Chinese Peking Rug from the collection of Aram Jerrehian, scion of the Philadelphia rug emporium bearing his family’s name. The 8 foot 7 inch x 6 foot 2 inch rug features lively dragons surrounded by a wave border and bears a pre sale estimate of $10,000-15,000.

Sixty rugs from the James Opie Collection will also be featured. Opie, a noted rug scholar, collector and dealer from Portland, Oregon, is selling many of his coveted South Persian rugs in the auction.

A fully illustrated catalogue of the auction will be available on-line at www.groganco.com in early January and a week long exhibition will begin on Monday, 14 January 2013.
