The New England Rug Society is hosting a virtual lecture, “Gems of Ottoman Classical Rugs – A New Perspective,” by Stefano Ionescu on March 1, 2025.
Renowned author and presenter Stefano Ionescu will share fresh insights from his latest book, “The Transylvanian Heritage – Ottoman Carpets 1450 to 1750 – a New Perspective”, which is dedicated to classical Ottoman rugs.
His presentation will explore several intriguing and sometimes controversial topics, including the Lotto group, Small Medallion Ushaks, double-niche rugs, and new interpretations of column rugs. These themes will be brought to life with images of Transylvanian rugs and carpets, manuscript miniatures, ceramics, and architecture.
The release of the book “The Transylvanian Heritage” took place in Istanbul in June 2024 and coinsided with the International Conference on Oriental Carpets.
