The 5th International Congress on Azerbaijani Carpets will be held 12-14 March 2013 in Baku, Azerbaijan, to coinside with the Opening Ceremony of the New Building of the Carpet Museum.

The announcement of the Congress has just been released by Roya Taghiyeva, Director of the Azerbaijani State Carpet Museum and Alberto Boralevi, Chair of ICOC Academic Committee.

Presentations of papers at the Congress will be related to the following topics:
-History of weaving and early examples of Azerbaijani carpets including carpets  in paintings and miniatures
-Antique Azerbaijani carpets in museums and collections worldwide
-Pile carpets and flat-weaves in Azerbaijan
-The classification of Azerbaijani carpets according to Eastern and Western  scholars
-Ethnographic aspects of carpet weaving
-Aspects of contemporary carpet-production: “Artists and Carpets”

The Congress program includes a special Temporary Exhibition devoted to “Azerbaijani Dragon and related Carpets” featuring early examples of Azerbaijani Carpets loaned from Foreign Museums and Private Collections. Other special exhibitions will present masterpieces from the huge collection of the Carpet Museum in Baku (about 6,000 items) as well as selected examples of contemporary production in traditional and non-traditional designs.
