Christies auction ‘500 Years: Decorative Arts Europe’ in New York 29-30 November 2012 includes 47 oriental rugs and carpets. The carpet lots are sold in the session 29 November 2012 starting at 2:00 pm. The viewing time is 26-28 November 2012.

Many of the rugs and carpets in this auction are antique or semi-antique decorative Persian and Indian workshop carpets; Persian Heriz, Tabriz, Kirman, Sultanabad, Bakshaish, Isfahan, Tehran, Kashan and Indian Agra carpets. All the carpet lots on sale – perhaps with a very few exceptions – are far beyond the price level where the common rug collector is feeling comfortable to make a bid. The lowest estimate for a rug in this auction is 3.000-5.000 $ and the highest 80.000-120.000 $.
