Skinner will host a preview of highlights of Chinese carpets from the Jim Dixon Collection at Asia Week NY 21-22 March 2022.
Among the highlights is a rare and important Ming Imperial Dragon Carpet woven for the Imperial Palace of Beijing during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Other highlights on display are early Chinese rugs, carpets, textiles, and works of art from the 16th through the 18th centuries. Opening hours are 21-22 March from 9 am – 5 pm.
Jim Dixon (1943-2000) was a highly regarded collector and his collection came to be known as the ‘Hesperides Collection’. The residence Jim Dixon built in Occidental, California, dramatically showed pieces of his collection with rugs and carpets cascading down the interior walls. He frequently opened his doors for visitors who admired to see his collection in a breathtaking arrangement.
Skinner will hold a series of auctions dedicated to the Jim Dixon Collection, beginning with both a live and online auction in May 2022. These auctions will have public previews closer to the sale dates.
