De Young Museum will present a lecture about Central asian carpets by Dr. Elena Tsareva during the SF Tribal Art and Textile Show.

The Sixth Annual Caroline and H. McCoy Jones Memorial Lecture: “Central Asian Carpet Traditions: Nomadic vs. Sedentary”, by Dr. Elena Tsareva will take place Saturday, 9 February at 1 p.m. at the de Young Museum, Koret Auditorium, San Francisco. Admission is free.

Dr. Elena Tsareva is a world-acknowledged specialist in the field of archaeological and ethnographic textiles and an expert on carpet weaving of the peoples of Northern Eurasia. A graduate of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Saint Petersburg (formerly Leningrad) State University, Dr. Tsareva is the head of textile research at the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera), Saint Petersburg. Her most recent publication, Turkmen Carpets: Masterpieces of Steppe Art, from 16th to 19th Centuries, The Hoffmeister Collection, was a listed as one of the top books in its category in the New York Times Holiday Gift Guide 2011.

In 2012, Dr.Tsareva was honored by the Near Eastern Art Research Center with the Joseph V. McMullan Award for Stewardship and Scholarship in Islamic Rugs and Textiles.
