A SARYK MAIN CARPET, WEST TURKESTAN, early 19th century, approximately 260 by 242cm; 8ft. 6in., 7ft. 11in. Condition: Pile generally fair overall, with knot-bars visible throughout, and slightly higher pile in the borders, up to 1-1.5mm in depth. Minute amounts of light cochineal pink highlights in borders and primary guls in the main field. Lots of supplementary wefting and off-set knotting in the ground. Minute spots of foundation visible in places. Very small areas of repiling, in area of central axis, lower half of field: one section being approximately 10 by 3cm, the other section with four small areas together, approximately 2.5 by 2.5cm at largest, which are visible on close inspection. Side cords are missing and the edges are secured with blanket stitch. Ends are overlocked and the outermost tip of the bottom left corner has been rebuilt. Slight losses to the ends.
