A ‘STAR’ OUSHAK CARPET, WEST ANATOLIA, late 16th century, approximately 304 by 194cm; 10ft., 6ft. 4in. Condition: Overall in very good condition. The carpet has been conserved at some point and there are scattered areas of repiling visible as the lighter blue areas centre left of field and lower right and scattered minor repiling to yellow, visible as a brighter colour. Small cobbled repairs in centre of top medallion. Some restorations to the ends, but overall in really good condition, particularly in view of age. Side cords are rebound and stitched to tape on reverse, ends are stabilised. Good, clear colour. Lighter repaired blues could possibly be surfaced dyed to knock them back to be slightly darker, otherwise it is ready to use or display. Estimate
