Nazmiyal Auction will hold their next auction ‘Collection of Antique and Vintage Rugs from Various Estates and Collections’ 15 October 2020 at 6 pm in New York. The auction includes 160 lots.
Jozan Magazine has asked Elisabeth Parker, former head of Christies rug department, and now consultant for Nazmiyal Auctions, to tell more about this auction and point out some highlights from the auction.
‘It is an exciting opportunity for both first time buyers and seasoned collectors. With starting bids ranging from $100 to $18,000, there is a range of pieces from tribal semi-nomadic storage bags to large room size Persian decorative carpets from Tabriz, Kerman, Khorassan and Sultanabad. Highlights from the selection of Caucasian rugs are lot 7022, a colorful Karachopt Kazak Rug and lot 7021, a charming Daghestan Prayer Rug. Among the decorative room-size carpets, lot 7064, an elegant circa 1880 Mohtashem Kashan carpet and lot 7109, a decorative Turkish Oushak Carpet are standouts.’ says Elisabeth Parker to Jozan Magazine.
The earliest carpet in the sale, lot 7110, is an 18th century Turkish Smyrna Carpet. Other pieces like lot 7043, an antique Bakshaish carpet and two antique Persian saltbags, lot 7004, should also be mentioned.
Some Israeli Marbediah and Bezalel rugs, rare to come to market, are also included in this auction. And from Asia, there are Chinese textiles, Tibetan, Khotan, Mongolian and Chinese rugs and carpets.
