Volkmentreffen 2012 will take place Friday 26 to Sunday 28 October 2012 in cooperation with the Museum of Islamic Art, National Museum of Berlin.
This years themes are fake rugs and forgeries. Among the lecturers are Dr. Katja Schmitz – Vianna, Stefano Ionescu – Rome, J√ľrg Rageth – Basel, Matthijs de Keijzer – Amsterdam/Vienna, Robert Mann – Denver, Ali Riza Tuna – Geneva, Michael Bischof – Lonsheim, Markus Voigt – London, and Michael Franses – London.
Stefano Ionescu’s, Robert Mann’s and Michael Franses speaches will be in English while all the other speaches will be in German.
The program for Volkmanntreffen 2012 begins Friday evening with a speak by Dr. Katja Schmitz ¬†“The emperor’s new clothes, the coronation regalia of the king and emperors of the Holy Roman Empire and the copies for Franz Stephan I of Lorraine”, a title which seems to be inspired by the Danish poet Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fairytale.
Saturday forenoon includes lectures by Stefano Ionescu, who will hold a speak “Tuduc, the most famous rug forger in the 20th century” and J√ľrg Rageth, who will hold a speak entitled “Unmasking carpet fakes by dye analyses”. The afternoon program includes the following speaks “Art dating – revealing fakes”¬†by¬†Matthijs de Keijzer , “Replicating old rugs – the science and art of making old rug copies” by Robert Mann,¬†¬†“No original, no fake – back to the future” by Ali Riza Tuna, and “I need good stuff, looking as old as possibly” by Michael Bischof.
Sunday forenoon includes a speak by Markus Voigt “Falling for a fake” and a speak by Michael Franses entitled ¬†“Some of the people, all of the time” including remarks and comments.
