"To be honest, Ivan, I was very satisfied how the conference worked out. We had an impressive number of paid registrants from all over the world -- nearly 600. There were also another 500 local Istanbul residents who attended our receptions as guests of the various museums...we had not counted on such a response and understand that they ran short of food. I think the Istanbul ICOC conference made an great contribution to the knowledge and appreciation of Turkish carpets and kilims. The quality of papers was generally very good. The exhibitions were unprecedented in ICOC's history. Among the volunteers who made the ICOC a success I will especially thank Mehmet Cetinkaya and Alberto Boralevi, as well as other members of the ICOC Executive Committee and the Local Organizing Committee for their enormous commitment of time and efforts over the past four years."
