DESCRIPTION: 1655. An attractive and unusual
European Art Deco carpet, probably
English about 1920-30, 12ft.10in. x
9ft. 10in. 3.90m. x 3m. Although the design
of this remarkable carpet is reminiscent of
those made for the French retail firm of Sue
et Mar, the hand-knotted structure is typical
of British manufacturers such as Templeton,
Wilton and Donegal. The design cannot at
present be attributed to any individual artist
or designer although both in colour and pattern
it is reminiscent of some of the carpets
designed by members of the Bloomsbury
