Bergama

LOT: 214
RUG NAME: Bergama
AGE: mid 19th century
ESTIMATE: 3.400 EUR
SOLD: 2.900 EUR
DESCRIPTION: Lot Nr.: 214
Description: BERGAMA
Origin: Northwest Anatolia, mid 19th century Size: ca. 212 x 158 cm Estimate EUR: € 3,400
A high piled, extremely heavy village carpet from the coastal region of the Dardanelles, the region between Ezine, Canakkale and Manyas. The composition and individual motifs date back to the Ghirlandaio carpets of the 16th century. The adherence to centuries-old traditions is a particular characteristic of the products of the Bergama region. – This carpet must have been badly damaged, because it has been substantially repiled in several areas, apparently some considerable time ago. Moth damage, small holes and several tears.
