1906 Antique Tribal Luri Main Carpet Dated 1906 Luri Rug Gallery RUG NAME: Antique Tribal Luri Main Carpet Dated 1906 GALLERY: Luri CATEGORY: Persian AGE: 1906 PRICE: 5600 USD ID(Jozan): no. 5062 DESCRIPTION: Here is an exceptional and rare tribal village weaving from SW Persia, probably Luri. This large main carpet is dated 1324 or 1906. It must have been woven for a special occasion or commission as these tribal weavings were rarely dated.
Great care was taken by the weaver to select a glorious array of colors, all from natural dyes. Three Luri/Khamseh/Qashqai type medallions are surrounded in the field by hooked motifs often seen in Luri weaving. The prominent cruciform elements extending from each medallion are unusual. The spacious field is framed by a colorful dragon border flanked by floral meander minor borders. The whole border arrangement is exquisitely drawn (take a close look) and sophisticated for a tribal weaving.
This beautiful carpet is in original condition with no repairs. The ends are intact and still retain some of the original braiding. The red and blue wrapped selvages are original and strong. The pile is very thick, soft, and lustrous. As with all my rugs, it is washed and ready for use.
If you have an interest in this piece, please ask for high resolution photos.
Size is 5ft x 9ft2in or 152cm x 280cm.
Structure: Z2S wool warps in ivory, brown, and twisted ivory/brown. Wool wefts, two shoots, in red and brown. Pile is symmetrical knot open to the right with very slight depression. 11 horizontal x 9 vertical knots per inch. Handle is soft, pliable, floppy, but not loose. Pile height is 15mm.
There are 11 clear and saturated naturally dyed colors: indigo, medium blue, light blue, a super gold-yellow, deep reddish brown, rich red, cinnamon, lime green, dark green, ivory, and black.
Donīt let this uncommon and brilliant tribal weaving pass you by. Please email for more information or high resolution photos.
