Description of Design and History :
This remarkable pink Central Medallion Kurdish village weaving with four corners (lachack) can be attributed to the Qulyahi area to the west of the city of Hamadan, for generations on the leading centres of North West Persian carpet making. On the dark blue field, a series of vertical rows contain stylised florettes and palmettes, which in alternate rows are flanked by stylised curled leaves; between these major elements are scattered "filler" motifs, again consisting of stylised florettes as well as tiny and amusing naive animals. These field motifs are in a palette, predominantly, of crimson, pink, gold, yellow, pale blue and ivory, a typical Kurdish colour combination. The main blue ground border contains a repeated series of highly stylised leaf and flower forms and is flanked by two pale brown guards containing individual flower heads in pink, brown and ivory. A most attractive Kurdish village rug in excellent condition.
