Description of Design and History :
A splendidly heraldic soumac-wolven carpet in a highly artistic East caucasian piece of triple medallion design, also employed on pile carpets dating back as early as 17th century to some of the greatest known soumacs of the 19th century. This lovely carpet with its beautifully decorated caucasian medallions are highlighted by the deep rich purple colour of the field, Stylized symbols of birds are woven into the carpet throughout the field, the border of colourful, highly stylized hooked bird repeat pattern, certainly makes it a great piece of splendour and beauty, from a classic design group.
