1913 Rare Inscribed Armenian Kuba Shirvan Kuba Rug Gallery RUG NAME: Rare Inscribed Armenian Kuba Shirvan GALLERY: Kuba CATEGORY: Caucasian AGE: 1913 PRICE: 4850 USD ID(Jozan): no. 3909 DESCRIPTION: Here is a rare opportunity to own a beautifully woven inscribed Armenian rug. The English translation of the inscription reads "in the year 1913 Moses Der Danielian". Structure of the rug is typical of the Kuba area, but it could have been woven in Shirvan as well. The blue wefts are unusual, however.
The design of this Caucasian weaving has been classified as Ordutch-Konagkend or Surahani. This example has been skillfully rendered with a harmonious balance of space and color.
Ivory and tan wool warps are moderately depressed, with blue dyed wool wefts. All the dyes are from natural sources with the exception of just a few accent knots in a synthetic pink. There are ten colors: midnight blue, burgundy-brick red, straw gold, dark brown, chestnut brown, reddish brown, teal, sky blue, white, and pink.
Condition is near perfect with full pile. There is little evidence of use. Both ends are original and in excellent condition. Selvedges are original and nearly perfect. The handle is soft and pliable with the tightly woven structure adding some firmness. The wool pile is extremely soft, supple, and glossy. Knots are 9 x 8 or 72 kpsi.
Size is 250cm x 128cm or 8ft 2in x 4ft 2in.
I have many other photos available. Please contact me if you wish to see more photos or need information. Thank you.Additional images
