DESCRIPTION: Senneh rug, workshop weaving, high knotcount, probably from the city of Senneh in southern Iranian Kurdistan, 5’6” x 6’6”, from about 1880-1900. The “Mina Khani” design and coloration are common in workshop carpets woven in Varamin more than a generation later, and are a good illustration of how designs and color use were transferred from one area to another in Iran during the rug weaving boom. This piece is striking and highly unusual. There must be others like it, but we’ve never seen one. In very good condition, with some well repaired tears and the left guard border slightly reduced. Colors reproduce best in the details.
