Balouch bags Rug Gallery

RUG NAME: Timuri bag face fragment
GALLERY: Balouch bags
CATEGORY: Bags and trappings
AGE: early 19th century
ID(Jozan): no. 2960
DESCRIPTION: 0.84 X 0.62m. Wool, camel, and goat. Asymmetric knot open left. Missing guard border on each side and partially at each end. Good pile except for corrosive areas. The value of this type of bag lies in the manner in which they demonstrate the evolution of the gul. In this one we see animated dragon and phoenix icons at opposite corners delineating a gul with a star center. They don't get much better than this example. Additional images
