1945 1945 Bakhtiary from Central Persia, 400 x 196 cm Bakhtiar Rug Gallery RUG NAME: 1945 Bakhtiary from Central Persia, 400 x 196 cm GALLERY: Bakhtiar CATEGORY: Persian AGE: 1945 ID(Jozan): no. 2881 DESCRIPTION:
Carpet No. (Type and Reference): 0462 THE23348 Bakhtiary
DESCRIPTION OF DESIGN AND HISTORY:
This lovely rug, probably made in the Tschale Shotar district, provides an outstanding illustration of the capabilities of Bakhtiari village weavers when enabled, for whatever reason, to go beyond the economic restrictions imposed upon them by bazaar merchants to whom time and low overheads were the paramount consideration. The design is recognizably from the Bakhtiari repertoire and familiar to Western carpet collectors, who will probably have seen only its more commercial versions in recently exported examples. This outstanding example embellished with a beige central medallion and a Sar Torang at each end of the medallion has four lions surrounding it. The black field is adorned with a rose garden design and the roses are repeated in the four corners of the field. The main border of cream and two guard borders of rusty red frames this beautiful piece perfectly.
