DESCRIPTION OF DESIGN AND HISTORY:
This delightful small Sarouk is in the firm handle and close weave that is taken to indicate the work of Mohadjeran, a village on the outskirts of Arak. However, Diley (Oriental Rugs and Carpets) mentions a local family called Mohajerani, who contributed significantly to raising the quality of local carpets in the Sultanabad district, from which this piece derives. The well spaced dark blue floral patterned field with its central arrangement possesses much of the character of Sarouks from the following decade. A deep light brown border carries the palmette repeat found in several items from the Arak district. The clear drawing and charming design of the carpet combined with soft dye palette and superb quality make it of particular note.
