DESCRIPTION OF DESIGN & HISTORY:
The classic herati design of North West Persia is rendered with fluent assurance in this closely knotted and richly coloured old Tabriz, producing the graceful rhythmic flow in the field area that distinguishes the herati when expressed by skilled and sensitive weavers. The dark blue field provides a splendid background to the herati system of latticed leaves, flowers and stems, piled in a fresh palette of light coral, soft blue, ivory, green, walnut, rose-pink and tomato red. Arabeque ´turtle´ palmettes are contoured in dark blue around alternating centres of red rosettes against ivory or ivory rosettes against soft blue in the pale rose-pink main border; this well drawn pattern is set on a double vine-tendril in aqua blue, with interspersing lanceolate leaf brackets. The composition is concluded by wheat-yellow side borders embellished with rosette meanders in rich red, soft green and mid blue. A gracefully proportioned, expressively drawn and beautifully coloured old Tabriz.
