DESCRIPTION OF DESIGN & HISTORY :
The arrangement of maroon coloured Vase in cream field is an old Isfahan convention. Almost invariably combined with bird and animals forms, as shown here to represent the Garden of Paradise. The lustrous maroon coloured main border is altogether more original in conception, its energetic pattern and bold colour juxtapositions providing an impressive contrast with the refinement of the field approach. Profuse bird and animal motifs establish the necessary relevance between a field and border otherwise so opposite in character. Kork wool pile and very fine knotting indicate an Isfahan of exceptional calibre.
