1920 1920 Sarouk-Feraghan from Central Persia, 223 x 129 cm Sarouk Rug Gallery RUG NAME: 1920 Sarouk-Feraghan from Central Persia, 223 x 129 cm GALLERY: Sarouk CATEGORY: Persian AGE: 1920 ID(Jozan): no. 2574 DESCRIPTION: Carpet No. (Type and Reference): 0153 BTH22251
DESCRIPTION OF DESIGN AND HISTORY:
A magnificent specimen of the Sarouk-Feraghan group, the dramatic effects of the surmey-blue medallion and border expressively juxtaposed with the intricate refinement of the field-and-corner design. The ornate central blossom in the medallion has its focal emphasis cleverly enhanced by the equally complex, yet tonally unobtrusive, fan-shaped bouquet pendants. The border is the real trimph of this rug, however. Its foliate meander in white and rose combines a vigorous sinuosity with a pronounced rhythmic irregularity giving a lively vitality to the pattern. The intensity of the saturated blue background is the prime source of this borders flamboyant character, with unusual light orange guard stripes of closely detailed meander contributing further to its stylistic prominence. The fine, close-clipped pile accentuates both the clarity and inner detail of this memorable piece.
