RUG NAME: Sarouk
GALLERY: Sarouk
CATEGORY: Persian
AGE: 1910
ID(Jozan): no. 2530
DESCRIPTION: This circa 1910 Tafshanjian (signed) Sarouk Carpet measures 11’6” X 16’2”. It has an overall design on a deep red maroon field. The design is rather unique in that the field is enclosed in a border of cartouches containing flower heads and vines. All four corners have vases with a tree of life motif. Further in towards the center at each corner there is a horn of plenty with a bouquet of flowers coming in to the center with flowering vines. There are also two blue rhomboids looking like stained glass windows. The colors in the rug are blue, green, pale rose and gold. The major border has an intricate Kashan style motif of flowering urns. Inside the main blossom heads are small trees. It is a very intricate pattern. Each extreme corner of the field contains an Islamic double square. The rug is made of the finest Manchester wools. It is very sparkly and shiny. The rug is VERY finely woven with a KPSI of 180 knots to the inch. The rug is better than 99% full pile. The rug has had artificial fringe added to the end with a loss of 2-3 rows of knots which has been overcast at the top end. This rug is a fantastic size and a fantastic color! It is in great condition it is a great value! Please visit our website where there are multiple images available for each rug. Please email any questions.
