The first two weeks of October 2012 includes several interesting rug and carpet auctions in UK and USA.
Carpet auctions in UK
Christies specialist auction “Oriental Rugs and Carpets” will take place 2 October 2012 in London. This auction includes 161 lots and the offers are high priced and exclusive Persian and Anatolian carpets and rugs.
Another London auction is Sothebys “Arts of the Islamic World” Â 3 October 2012. This auction includes 23 expensive carpet lots, and among them rare Sogdian textiles and exclusive Persian, Indian and Anatolian carpets.
A much different auction, though probably of more interest for the common collector, takes place in Salisbury 4 October 2012, where Netherhampton Salerooms has  nearly 600 Oriental rugs, carpets and textiles on sale at their specialist sale “Carpets, Rugs & Textiles”
Bonhams has not arranged a specialist carpet sale in Lonfon this fall but their auction “Period Design” 9 October 2012 includes 42 Oriental rugs and carpets.
Carpet auctions in USA
Bonhams “Fine Oriental Rugs and Carpets” will be held in New York 9 October 2012 with a simulcast session in Los Angeles. This auction, which includes 148 lots, has been carefully planned with preview exhibitions both in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. Approximately 65 % of the rugs on offer in this auction are old, semi-antique and antique Persian rugs.
Freeman’s specialist auction “Oriental Rugs & Carpets” will take place in Philadelphia 10 October 2012. Most of the offers among the 125 lots are Persian rugs and carpets.
Sothebys will hold their auction “English and European Decorative Arts” in New York 11 October 2012. This auction includes 36 carpet lots. Among the offers are European and Persian rugs and carpets.
