ID(Jozan): no. 98362
DESCRIPTION: Sultanabad carpet, workshop weaving from the city of Arak (formerly Sultanabad) or a nearby village in western Iran, 10’7” x 12’6”, from 1880-1900. Many of these iconic carpets have large medallions, and it is rare to find one like this with an overall design in compatible colors, complete, and in good condition. The striking pale green background border complements the rust field. Usual border color for these carpets is dark blue. The large palmette border elements are typical of Sultanabads. Almost all old Sultanabads are rust, not red. Detail images show color best.
