DESCRIPTION: Shirvan prayer rug,Eastern Caucasus,circa 1880.Measurements of the piece: 4´.9"x3´.8" (145x112 cm).The ivory field displays a lozenge lattice embracing a variety of stylized flowers and accented by a small dot patterns.The spandrels each contain columns of alternating squares.The mihrab arch centers an interesting,almost anthropomorphic design.The main red border contains a complex colorful detailed multicolor "S" pattern and is flanked by minor guards:the inner reciprocal in light blue and brown and the outer one with multicolor rosette design.The colors are beautiful and the rug is in good condition including the flatwoven kilim ends and sidecords.
