The Beauty of Silence - Moroccan Berber rugs

Click to enlarge"I wish to inform you that my friend Chiara Battini of Asiaoccidentale Gallery in Florence has organized an exhibition of Berber Rugs in a Brooklyn Gallery next week" says Alberto Boralevi to Jozan Magazine.

"The Beauty of Silence - Moroccan Berber rugs" is an exhibition of thirty unique rugs from the collections of Chiara Battini and Leopoldo Vezzoni (Florence), and Susan Gomersall (New York).

The exhibition will take place 10-25 May at 477 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, New York. The opening reception will be Saturday 10 May 2008, 5pm to 9pm.

All the rugs in the show are original tribal rugs, most of them from the early 1900’s, but their monochromatic field and odd talismanic designs are more reminiscent of contemporary designed pieces.

Some of the rugs remind us of the paintings of Paul Klee, and other are like Mark Rothko’s monochromatic canvases.

The exhibition focuses on the connection between Tribal Art and Modern and Contemporary Art reminding us of our roots to ancient cultures.

Location: Kea Carpets & Kilims, 477 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, New York
