"The Caucasus is one of the most ethnically and linguistically complex geographic regions in the world", says dr. Michele Hardy to Jozan Magazine. "Various groups of Shi’a and Sunni Muslims, Orthodox Christians, and Jews traditionally herded sheep and goats and wove beautiful flat and pile rugs for domestic and later, commercial, purposes".

"This exhibition", she continues, "draws together a number of Caucasian rugs, drawn from the Jean and Marie Erikson Collection, that feature blue grounds—a color that was predominantly and uniquely used by Caucasian weavers. The exhibition will examine color symbolism, dye technique, and use in the context of the continuity and diversity of rug design within the region".

The exhibition will be on display March 9th to August 31th 2007 at The Nickle Arts Museum.

Location: The Nickle Arts Museum, 2500 University Dr. N.W., Calgary, Alberta, Canada
